Sandown Sprint
PCV 2007
Sandown is located in Springvale and is always a favourite for Melbourne Porsche clubbers as it is close to Melbourne and easy to get to - a perfect Sunday morning!
I was using this sprint as a warm up for the year as well as a shake down for the Phillip Island Historics in March. I was keen to see how the car would go after having made some significant changes to the car since it was last at Sandown at the historics just 4 months before.
Since the last time it was out and driven in anger, I had changed the muffler, changed the carbies, changed the jetting, and altered the suspension set up slightly by adjusting the negative camber.
The results were dramatic. I was 4 seconds quicker than I was at the historic event four months earlier. Woo Hoo!
With more power at the rear wheels, and a more free flowing exhaust (that sounded great!) I was almost as fast in my 1967 911 S with its 2.0 litre motor, as I was in the 1962 356 Porsche with a 2.8 litre motor in it! Granted, I had more seat time and experience in my car than I had when I last had the 356 out there.
Overall the day was a success, leaving with great confidence and excitement as to what times I could now do at Phillip Island.
