DECA Special Event PCV 2007

DECA

The DECA facility at Shepparton is a place I am very familar with. I first competed at DECA at the age of 16 when I was with my father on a 356 Nationals back in early 1990's. I came second against all the experienced drivers, so it does hold a special place in my competitive heart.

Following the previous days event at Winton, I was well warmed up and at one with the car. DECA should suit my little car being nimble, narrow and a short wheel base. However the back circuit you always need some more horsepower to really be in the top 10.

The skin pan event was tricky as usual. One wrong move and you would be have a WD and ruin your day. Keep it clean and smooth, don't hit any witches hats, and you kept yourself in it.

The little 2.0 911 S ran perfectly, although cold tyres on the skin pan is always interesting and keeps you on your toes.

The back circuit I know really well, however I had not competed at DECA in the 2.0 S, but had in Marcus Hancocks car at the Dutton Rally the year earlier. His car has plenty poke than mine, as he has a 2.7 210hp motor it. I achieved some fantastic results in his car, so I was intrigued to see how I would go in my car that had less power.

The short wheel base lifted its wheels on the short circuit, with drive being lost because I don't have an LSD... I so have to save up for one!

However my main issue was that I hit a couple of cones (witches hats) that cost me time. I thought I was well clear of them, but my urge to get the best time proved costly.

Overall I had a good day, finishing quite well considering the costly mistakes of the cones. If I had not had hit those, I would have finished ...., but I ended up finshing .... outright, and .... in my class.

Happy but there is always room for improvement.
