The 356 Speedster, the envy and aspiration of many men and women young and old. The Speedster was the brain child of Max Hoffman, the New York importer of Porsche to the USA. Sensing the need for a cheaper open top 356 for the American market, Hoffman approached Porsche to built the Speedster, and this proved to become the most famous of all 356 models. The Speedster was the cheapest model available with little or weather protection, no wind up windows, and sparse interior and gauges.
This 356 Speedster was found in the mid 1990's by Stewart Webster and imported. It was restored over the space of 3-4 years. It has very few signs of accident damage and was in remarkable condition (from a body perspective) given its age. The car was originally white, and had black interior, however Stewart preferred the red interior, and thus this was the only departure from the cars original specification. All the original items that the car was delivered with were sourced and added to the car. These included rare mirrors, driving lights, special order wheels, and coupe seats and steering wheel lock. In the end after a long restoration with absolutely no corners being cut, the 838th Speedster ever made won numerous awards. The remains to be registered in Victoria, and is beautiful to drive. Matched to a correct number 1500 cc motor, the Speedster is one of the finest in the world.
