The Porsche 356 A model was made between 1956 and 1959, and this particular model is one of the last of the A series cars. The A model is distinctive from its later model visible by the drop head headlights, low bumper bars, and bubble nose. The A model 356 is one of the most sought after Porsche 356 models due to its distinctive looks and universal appeal and similarity to the famous 356 Speedster. A sunroof (as seen on this car) is a very rare and sought after option.
This particular car started life in America, and was imported by Porsche Classics in the mid 1990's. After spending quite some time waiting for restoration the car finally was started and was envisaged by Stewart Webster as being his replacement rally car in mind. The car was fully restored including a back to bare metal respray and custom engine and gearbox including a longer top gear and LSD. The car was also fitted with disc brakes and rare and light Technomagnesio wheels. The is fully equiped for rallying having a full CAMS approved rollcage, speedster seats, VDO mini cockpit, bonnet straps, oil catch can, driving lights and cut out switch. This car has had an impressive competitive history having competed in Targa Tasmania in 2001 and 2002. It also has competed in Classic Adelaide from 2002-2007 winning a Targa Plate in every appearance so far. This car drives like no other 356 with lots of power, torque, and brilliant handling. This is surely the bench mark as to all 356 rally cars should aspire to, bearing mind, it can quite easily drive to the shops as well!
