In 1963 Porsche released at the Frankfurt motor show the Porsche 901. Due for released in 1964/1965, the Porsche 901 became the Porsche 911 as Peugeot launched and all our legal battle with Porsche stating that it owned the rights to any three digit car model designation with a 0 in the middle. With only 232 Porsche 901's built to date, Porsche changed the script and promotion of the model. Subsequently Porsche changed the Porsche 901 to the Porsche 911 and the rest is automotive history. The Porsche 911 was the replacement for the ageing Porsche 356, and while it retained the rear engine set up, it had a new 5 speed gear box and a 2.0 litre 6 cylinder motor producing 130 bhp. The Porsche 911 has gone on to be the most recognized and famous Porsche of all time.
This early Porsche 911 was the 1606th Porsche 901/911 ever built. Currently registered in Victoria, and optioned with a rare sunroof, this car was brilliantly converted to RHD and has benefited from a previous owner spending lots of money on special NOS items as well as suspension and interior items. This car is a pleasure to drive and has Zenith carbi's (it should have Solex's originally). Finished in its original Light Ivory paint, the car is in wonderful condition. To bring this car to concours would require a light respray that would ensure perfect colour matching. Currently the bonnet and bootlid are slightly off, but it is very hard to pick. Enjoy now, or spend a little bit of money to make it perfect. Truly a great early Porsche 911.
