In 1963 Porsche released at the Frankfurt motor show the 901. Due for released in 1964/1965, the 901 became the Porsche 911 as Peugeot launched and all our legal battle with Porsche stating that it owned the rights to any three digit car model designation with a 0 in the middle. With only 232 901's built to date, Porsche changed the script and promotion of the model. Subsequently Porsche changed the 901 to the 911 and the rest is automotive history. The Porsche 911 was the replacement for the ageing 356, and while it retained the rear engine set up, it had a new 5 speed gear box and a 2.0 litre 6 cylinder motor producing 130 bhp. The Porsche 911 has gone on to be the most recognized and famous Porsche of all time.

This early Porsche 911 for sale was the 1493rd 901/911 ever built. Porsche Classics originally imported this car to Austraila some 15 years ago, and sold the unrestored car to a gentleman in country Victoria. A 2 year restoration saw the car debut for its first public showing at the Porsche 50th anniverary concours in Victoria in 1998 and then compete in the 50th year rally. The car was sold a year or so later to another enthusiast who owned it for approx 3 years before purchased by Andrew Farmer who fitted a roll cage and entered the car into Targa Tasmania and Classic Adelaide with huge success. The car had never had an accident since its restoration, and while it completed, Andrew spent a considerable sum of money in totally rebuilding the motor with George Cairns of Melbourne (a highly respected and experienced Porsche mechanic). Porsche Classics re-acquired the Porsche 911 in 2007 and have the roll cage out of the car. It can be reinstalled easily and the car is able to be co-log booked for Group S racing as well as Rallying in which it is already log booked for. This car is beautiful to drive, and has benefited from being upgraded to Weber carbies. The only thing that could be done, is a light respray to remove stone chips from the rallies it has competed in. Otherwise, drive an enjoy.
